Eastside CEO perspective on the JVA Movement
From the desk of:
Tim Vande Schraaf, President/CEO
Selecting a club volleyball experience can sometimes be a very difficult decision. It is imperative to be fully informed of any organization under consideration. Several years ago a rogue organization called the JVA was started with the premise of supporting junior club directors against actions of USA Volleyball. At that time, I was very vocal and critical of the agenda of the JVA. It was my belief the JVA was entertaining a movement with the intent of rallying member clubs to secede from USA Volleyball, and also had a hidden agenda, that has yet to surface in its entirety. I do believe USA Volleyball does have issues, but in my opinion fixing those issues should be a collaboration of the two parties, and should be kept within the confines of an established process. I believe the underlying facts of the JVA are to shift dollars away from USA Volleyball into the hands of JVA organizers. I have extended my hand twice to the JVA to assist with bridging their differences with USA Volleyball as a member of their Board of Directors, but both times my offer was rebuffed. Now with current actions of the JVA in the Great Lakes Region there appears to once again be a drive to shift teams away from USA Volleyball and to drive a wedge between two factions of Junior Volleyball. Eastside VBC is fully supportive of USA Volleyball and their agenda. We believe any club striving to play at a higher level, MUST support the National Governing body of the sport. I believe we need to embrace the organization that has a direct hierarchy into the USOC (United States Olympic Committee). The Eastside Volleyball Club once again is supporting the USAV Qualifier series with aspirations to qualify and compete at the USAV Juniors National tournament in Atlanta next summer. All of this being said, there is a packet circulating in the Great Lakes Region under an anonymous name, called the GLR Coalition. I normally do not support these types of actions, but this document has a lot of validity in my opinion. I encourage all potential club members in Central Illinois to read this packet in its entirety.
I cannot reiterate enough that the Eastside Volleyballl Club is the ONLY club in Central Illinois supporting USA Volleyball this year that I am aware of.
Finally, is the Eastside VBC a member of the JVA? Yes, but you must also be infomred that we had to join the JVA through our memberships of the AVCA. The AVCA recently announced the same offering to USA Volleyball Clubs, and I will be getting this affiliation changed immediately to the USA Volleyball grouping.
For opinions or comments regarding my position, please direct them to me at Director@Eastsidevb.com.

Please see the article in the The Bloomington-Pantagraph..
She is doing really well this season. Since her team needs her to hit, she plays in a 6-2 offense. She is playing Middle in the front row until the "main" middle is in the front row with her. Then, of course, she sets from the back row. She's having a blast and her team is undefeated.
